Smart solutions enhance the attractiveness of rail transport

Attractive rail transport was a central theme in this year’s Rata 2025 Seminar. Smart infrastructure and mobility solutions can influence people’s travel choices.

A seamless travel experience is key to making rail transport attractive. A crucial factor in this is the intelligent infrastructure surrounding rail systems, which enables features such as tram prioritization in traffic, smart integration and mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) solutions, and safety in both physical and digital environments.

As an expert in smart mobility, Nodeon is actively involved in the development of digitalization and automation in rail transport. We are, for example, part of the Finnish SmartRail ecosystem, which promotes the integration of rail transport into a city’s broader mobility network, fosters new service innovations, and develops tools for implementing autonomous trams.

We also have extensive experience in designing automation, power, and telecommunications systems for urban rail environments—most recently demonstrated in the planning of the communications network for the Vantaa light rail system.
